Premium vs. cheaper electronic translators – why pay more?

5 November 2018

Premium translator devices give you the confidence and peace of mind to communicate and be understood in the most remote locations and challenging situations.

I have this recurring nightmare.

I’m abroad in a foreign country and late for an extremely important business meeting, at which I’m hoping to clinch a very important contract – the deal of my career.

I jump into a taxi and say the name of my destination in my best foreign accent – the accent I’ve been practising just for this very moment. The driver shakes his head. I try again, enunciating the words of the address in the only way I know how. The driver shrugs his shoulders. Nothing.

When your electronic translator lets you down …

Trying to stay calm, I reach into my suit pocket and pull out my electronic translator. It’s a new purchase – a Chinese device bought relatively cheaply on Amazon – and perfect for times like this. I switch it on and press a few buttons, but it’s not easy to use and the interface has a clumsy English translation which is difficult to understand.

I finally navigate to the right function, press a button and speak the address clearly into the translator. There’s a pause. What’s it doing? Buffering? It seems to be connecting to a Chinese server … seconds seem like hours, and I can feel the contract slipping through my fingers.

Eventually the device springs into life and starts to repeat the address in the correct language. But instead of the natural voice of a well-spoken native speaker, all we get is the synthesized sound of a computer-generated voice –metallic, brittle and cold.

I look at the driver who strains his ear towards the device and I press the translate button once more. Again the cold, metallic voice. The driver shrugs his shoulders and turns off the engine.

Speak More Languages Now

I jump out of the taxi – and in my dream – run from car to car pushing the translate button over and over again … but nobody understands …

… reach for Vasco Translator Mini

Thankfully, in reality, my electronic translator isn’t like the one described above. Mine is a two-way premium translator device that features a number of different translation engines and servers located across continents to enable the translator to work quickly, accurately and smoothly.

And if that’s not enough, it has excellent voice recognition and incredible native speaker-like pronunciation that can be understood immediately and has never let me down.

The software is constantly being improved, and I can install the free updates sent by the company in a single click. Customer support is available locally in all languages via phone or email. It’s my constant companion on journeys long and short.

Here’s the bottom line. When you’re abroad on holiday or business, it’s paramount you have the confidence to be able to communicate in the most remote locations. Paying a bit more for a premium translator device – rather than relying on a cheaper Chinese model – gives you the peace of mind of being understood in every situation.

Now, isn’t that something worth talking about?

In a nutshell:

A premium electronic translator is worth the investment because it will never let you down in a difficult situation. Cheaper models may not work as well or may not be updated, which can lead to problems. Premium models also have better voice recognition and pronunciation.
